MYSTERY BAGS

Performance:

Students will become artists that use a given set of materials to create an exploratory three dimensional work of art.

Enduring Understandings:

Students will explore new materials to create an improvisational work of art, where they engage and persist when they meet a challenge.

Objectives:

- After introducing the studio bag, students will be able to develop and envision idea(s) for what they can create with the materials including paper, straws, chenille sticks, index cards, aluminum foil, plastic lids, cupcake holder, and stickers.

- Students will be able to engage and persist when they are faced with an artistic challenge that they gained from the studio bag.

- Students will be able to create through stretching and exploring with new materials including paper, straws, chenille sticks, index cards, aluminum foil, plastic lids, cupcake holder, and stickers that they were given.

- Students will be able to observe works of contemporary art by El Anatsui, Tara Donovan, and Toshihiko Mitsuya, and make predictions about what it could be made out of and what it could mean.

- Students will be able to reflect on their work, the challenges they faced, what they learned about the materials, and what they are proud of.
