2020 PHOTO CONTEST

Performance: 

Students will become photographers that are out to document their understanding of the year 2020 through emotions, thoughts, feelings, etc. Their audience will be the jurors of the Month of Photography Denver Gen Z: Responses to 2020 Contest. They will carefully and thoughtfully plan for what objects, the location, etc of their photograph so they can submit a high quality photograph to the contest.

Enduring Understandings: 

Through the development of a compositionally interesting photograph, students will express their emotions about a specific life experience.

Objectives: 

- Students will be able to ideate for their project through developing words, phrases, compositions, and sketches that express feelings/emotions they felt in the year 2020. 

- Students will be able to research the ideas of others about the year 2020 to help them ideate about their own feelings/emotions. 

- Students will be able to explain emotions/feelings that are conveyed in example photographs from students in past photography classes. 

- After learning about conceptual art, students will be able to explain how they will utilize conceptual art practices such as considering the meaning behind objects and the feelings/emotions connected to certain locations and objects to compose their final photograph.

- After listening to the lighting introduction, students will be able explain and utilize the methods for creating a well lit photograph, including using a ninety degree angle between the photographer, the subject, and the light source, and planning the time of day of a photograph to achieve the desired lighting. 

- After a rule of thirds introduction, students will be able to compose their images with visual movement. 

- Students will be able to take a digital photograph that portrays their feelings/emotions during the year 2020 by using their sketches. 

- Students will be able to take a fine art photograph, that is visually compelling, effectively utilizes visual movement, considers positive and negative space, and considers the lighting angle and quality. 

- Students will be able to explain how digital artists such as Lia Chavez utilize digital artmaking to portray emotions/feelings.

- Students will be able to edit their final photograph using photoshop to further portray the emotions/feelings they felt in 2020.
