Scratch is an online tool that allows for students to explore and try coding for games, stories, etc. Students can also create art through scratch. It is a tool that allows for students to try and explore multiple different ways of creating.
During the screencast video, I learned a lot about how to use this tool. I learned about the different ways it can be used as well as the different things students can create using this tool. I learned a little bit about coding, and what that might look like for students, and how to find each of the different things you might want a character to do.
In a face to face art classroom, this could be valuable to get students thinking about and trying multiple different ways of creating. Oftentimes students don't think about all the creativity and art that goes into creating video games. This could be a great way to get students to interact with a tool for making something that they are so familiar with. This also allows for them to connect art to their world. There is also the feature that allows for students to draw in a sense, which is great for getting students started and thinking about ways they can create.
In a remote learning art classroom, this can be really valuable in similar ways to the face to face classroom. I could create a tutorial video on how to use this online tool. Students could then explore and try the tool themselves. This would keep them engaged in art making, but in a slightly different way. Similarly, it would help them connect art with something they do outside of school.
